I am Italian and I will turn 27 next week; I started taking photos when I was five, playing with some toy cameras that pretended to be cheap imitations of expensive ones.
Later on, I got my first real camera and I remember how enthusiastic I was of shooting with film, because I needed to concentrate and no mistake was allowed to me.
Once I bought my first DSLR camera (a Canon 450D) I completely changed my attitude towards photography: now I like experimenting with toy cameras such as my Lomo Fisheye#two or creating sweet spots thanks to my Lensbaby Composer and I keep hoping I will find as soon as possible a Rapid cassette for my old Agfa ISO-Rapid I.
I absolutely prefer black and white photography; I love the essential shapes of the monochrome, where eyes and mind can focus on the subject and on the communicative aspect of an image.
I love advertising photography, particularly urban abstract photos. Everything strange, geometrical, wide and huge becomes a favorite subject to my eyes. This is why I chose to write my master’s thesis on this topic, publishing a comparative analysis of communicative methods of English and Italian advertising.
I really hope this could be the first step for a long and interesting career; I am fond of creating photos for a particular need, in order to express a special feeling and to show a unique emotion and relation with the subject of my photos.
Meantime I go on shooting together with my boyfriend, who shares this passion with me. Our last project is called “One Shot One Sushi” and arose in cooperation with a sushi restaurant based in our city. They gave us free sushi for some days and we stopped people along the streets in the city centre, offering them to eat sushi while taking a picture of the moment.
The final result consists of 75 black and white street portraits, showing different people and attitudes; this project has been a great challenge to me, because I am not used to shoot portraits. I discovered a new world made of faces, expressions, eyes and smiles. You can find the portraits of this project here http://oneshotonesushi.fourlights.it
I usually shoot with a Sigma 10-20mm and a Canon 50mm f1.8, together with my new Lensbaby Composer; therefore I tend to create wide photographs or macro ones, in particular still life or flowers, which I absolutely like when taken with bokeh. I also love travelling and my wish for the future is a personal scrapbook with a picture of every city around the world which I visited in my life.
I also opened a photography website with three friends; its name is Fourlights because we represent four different attitudes to photography: technical, communicative, artistic and thoughtful; we only write our editorials in Italian for now, but it is my will to translate the website in English as soon as possible, for increasing our presence among the interesting voices of this world.
If you like WWW photography (Wide – Weird – Wistful), well I am the right person.
