Photography is all about working with light, we quickly learn what works and what doesn’t. The more we know how light works the more creative we can be with our photography. We recently covered the great ebook Making light (you can read the review here) that taught us how to use our flash to much greater effect.
Well today sees the release of the of Making Light 2 an ebook dedicated to the Advanced use of off camera flash.
Off camera flash can be a daunting technique at first but once you know some basic technique with the correct equipment and vision it can be relatively easy to learn.
Making Light 2 takes us beyond the basics, the book is presented in five sections, the first looks at technique including beyond sync speed, working with multiple flashes and advanced trigger systems.
The second section looks at modifiers, and tips on getting the most from softboxes and tips on where to go once you have outgrown the small flash units.
The third section is my favourite looking at 10 incredible case studies. If you want to learn about lighting the case studies are a complete learning experience in themselves and feature some really stunning work that I am already tempted to try and recreate (if I can).
Finally the book concludes with a series of interviews of leading photographers and who they master their lighting setup.
Making Light 2 is a 76 page essential ebook for every photographer who owns an external flash and will likely improve your work no matter what stage you are in your lighting learning curve.
