My background started in secondary school. I have always been a creative person but up until secondary school it was with paper and paint rather than a camera. I obtained my first film SLR for free from an aunt, and instantly fell in love. I had an eye for a good composition apparently and after 2 years of A level photography I moved onto Foundation Degree level and then obtained a 2:1 Degree within photography in 2011.
The kind of work I do is mainly portraiture. It always involves people. I love to try and give a fashion edge to them though so am constantly doing beauty style shoots, fashion editorials and street style. I also do a bit of live gig photography now just because my friends are in a band. But all of this enables me to shoot regularly and continuously shoot portraiture which is my interest. I like to be Cliché and capture a moment with a person, and emotions that people may feel. It always interests me as people can be so fickle and change so sporadically. I also like to capture an atmosphere which was great when I photographed London Fashion Week SS12, and always helps when photographing live bands.
I’m always working on one particular project which is a self-portrait project which I am carrying on from university. These shoots always involve masks or make-up to disguise myself as it is all to do with my emotions as well as what people suffering from Depression may feel like. It can get rather personal and tough at times, but it can produce some great imagery with fashion editorial style make-up which I do myself, but I am now looking to get proper hair and make-up artists in to help me make it as good as it can look. I am looking to take it further as I started taking images of myself as swans, inspired by ‘Swan Lake’ and ‘Black Swan’ and my idea is to shoot in a studio with A LOT of feathers within my hair, eyebrows, eyelashes. Almost like a ‘wild child’ to show chaos and disorder and mess, yet also be looking pretty and interesting (which is the fashion edge).
I am also looking to test more and more to try and do more fashion editorials as my dream has always been to be published within magazines and work with top models and photograph such beautiful clothing and people. I am just starting to become more ‘established’ and I have been labelled as ‘up-and-coming’ so we shall see! Hopefully the future holds great things for me and I am aiming high. Paris Fashion Week is the next big dream as London Fashion Week was achieved at the age of 21!
