I’ve been taking pictures since I was a child. My grandfather often took me along when he went to take pictures. Whenever I visited him, he let me borrow his camera and gave me a roll of black and white film. One camera I especially remember is taking pictures with a Minolta Twin Lens Reflex Camera (I don’t remember the model year). At the end of the day I could use his darkroom to develop the film. I really learned a lot from him.
In the years that followed I didn’t do much with photography. At the age of sixteen I began to miss it a lot. I bought my first analog camera which didn’t have auto-focus or anything. I really shot a lot with it until it became too expensive for me to buy film. In 2006 I started training for professional photographer at the Fotovakschool in the Netherlands. In 2008 I successfully completed the training and became a professional photographer.
My name is Rene Kiviet, I am dutch and as Studio in Beeld I work as professional photographer. I mainly shoot advertising, portraiture and product photo´s. When I have to shoot employees from a company, I really like to get creative with them. I like to shoot them in a descriptive manner, like the picture with the couple dancing. This where employees from a company, who had never modeled before. Their acting out a theme for an article for an Annual Report.
I love taking pictures of people and try to capture their authenticity. I’m always looking at other pictures and experimenting with camera settings and angles. Whenever I work with people, I try to make them comfortable, so the pictures look natural and not overly posed. My inspiration comes from other photographers and their work. A lot of photographers inspire me and keep me enthusiastic to try new things and to see the world in a different way.
When I shoot for fun, I like to shoot ordinary things in a different way. Getting close or isolating something from its surroundings. I really like shooting with my camera facing the sun, getting the sun light to wrap around the object. I also like it when you have to look twice at the picture to see what it really is. I love textures and shapes.
I am glad I found photography as a way to express myself.
