My relationship with visual art started when I studied computer graphics. It opened my mind to the different ways that images can make us feel something, which sometimes can be very deep and strong within us.
But I came to photography very recently by myself, attracted by technical and optics stuff and how to use it as an expression way, combined with post-processing.
What inspires me is firstly trying to freeze an emotion into a picture, being able to keep the feeling of the instant. I think it’s something essential in taking pictures, to catch a screenshot of the heart’s emotions. With today’s technology you’re able to share it in an unlimited way and it’s an unexpected era to link your work to an audience.
My style doesn’t matches a stereotype or a model. I’m focused on emotion transcription, no matter the shooting technic or the processing style used; the goal is trying to touch the heart and stir a bit of the mind. I’m not searching to be adored by someone who’s looking to my work, but knowing if the person is touched by something on it.
For the type of photos, I like urbex style for the richness of the places and the unusual or freaky stuff, lights and shadows. I love gig photography for the technical difficulty and capturing musicians’ grimaces. I also really love landscape and nature photography, even it’s not really pioneering, I think trying to improve the rendering of the original emotion and make the nature speak our language is a real challenge. Another style that I appreciate a lot is still nature photos, with the feeling of life without the motion it involves. I’m starting to focus my interest in portraits, an essential step.
For the gear I use, I’m simply using a Nikon D5000 camera with a couple of different lenses, such as a Nikkor 35mm F1.8, a basic Nikkon 18-105mm F3.5/5.6 and a Sigma 10-20mm F4/5.6. It’s planned to buy a lot of more to extend the possibilities. Anyway all the gear in the world doesn’t replace the sensitivity of the photographer.
I don’t really have professional goals in photography; there are a lot of people out there that are probably more efficient than me to give customers what they want for the moment. Maybe if I have a chance later I’ll take it, but it’s not planned right now. For me it’s more about experiencing life through the lens, to bring people’s focus to something less materialistic and more spiritual, without any pretentions, sharing my work with other, exchanging ideas and techniques.
I’m still young, there are so many works to do, so many things to learn and a lot to share, and that’s the beauty of the photography and of life, of course.
