Over the past year photography has become my voice, my thoughts have constantly evolved around it, it has become the way I express what I could never imagine saying with only words. It has been especially conceptual photography and the act of forming stories to build photos around which have fueled my interest in growing as an artist and finding about my own style.
Photography does not limit me with rules, it lets me create whatever I think needs to be shown and thought about. It all started when I was gifted my first DSLR in 2010 which I quickly fell in love with but did not really know how to work except for documenting every day tits and bits of my life. It took me until the summer of 2011 when I started writing down and planning out actual shoots in the woods close to my home and at the lake I grew up by.
Suddenly, a whole new world started opening up to me when I realized the limitless possibilities of making my ideas and mind come alive with the help of post processing my thought through images, I started creating my own worlds – making the figures and characters which had existed in my head for many years come alive. I have ever since been inspired by literature, music, and the experiences I make from day-to-day. It does not need to be an exciting story, observing people I ride on the bus with, overhearing words from strangers on the street, or a line I catch a glimpse of in the newspaper are often enough to fuel my imagination and urge to create.
I have been influenced and driven by the constant longing to improve, photographers like Tim Walker and my greatest inspiration Annie Leibovitz have accompanied me on my journey and it is their books which I pick up in moments when inspiration just is not to be found. I aspire to one day be identified by my own distinct style, I aspire to inspire other photographers and people who have inspired myself at some point, and I aspire to never have to spend a day without the urge of taking photos.
