Snap! is the photo and film competition Mencap, (the voice of Learning Difficulties in the UK) offers every year with the 2010 theme being “Active”. Basically Mencap want you to communicate what you like doing to be active via still or moving image.
The competition is primarily aimed at people with a learning difficulty but if you do not have a learning disability can also enter but the photo or film must be something to do with learning disability.
The competition is a great opportunity to promote the Mencap charity and their work. If you can’t take part in the competition you can support the charity with a donation directly via their website.
Who can Enter
People with a learning disability can enter. People who do not have a learning disability can also enter but the photo or film must be something to do with learning disability.
Each photo or film should also have a story with it about why you made it. Mencap want you to send us photos and films of what makes you happy, sad, angry or proud about the things you do.
Prizes
As well as the chance to win a fantastic state of the art digital camera from Fujifilm UK Ltd or a photography voucher courtesy of the Sorrell Foundation, winners will be invited to a glittering awards ceremony in London where they will rub shoulders with some of Mencap’s celebrity supporters. The winning entries will be shown in an exhibition at a London art gallery and on the Mencap website. Following this, the exhibition will go on tour across the UK.
Conditions
Photographers and film-makers must get permission from everyone involved, including permission for the use of any music in films. Photographers retain ownership of their copyright but as part of the entering process, the entrant will agree to Mencap using the photos in publications, press releases or any other way chosen to promote the competition and organisation. Mencap will also have the right to sell the framed photos after the exhibition display.
