Choosing a great Asian wedding photographer is about more than just getting a great deal or a low price – it’s about finding the perfect person to capture moments from the most memorable day of your life!
If you punch “Indian wedding photography” into Google, you’ll get a lot of results, but taking the time to flip through a few pages will give you an idea of what you like, what you don’t, and how much you can be ready to spend. I always recommend couples to be wary of photographers that list rates that are far cheaper than competitors, as while this may seem like a great way to save money, it could also be a way to compromise the finished quality as well.
Aside from search engine optimization, there are many other ways to source out top-notch photographers:
Get a referral. I get a large percentage of my business from referrals, and it’s perhaps the easiest way to get connected to an Asian wedding photographer. Most newlyweds are happy to share not only their finished pictures, but also details about the experience leading up to and on the big day. I suggest asking more than one friend to get many recommendations, and then comparing their photographs.
Use your social network. Photo sharing network sites like Instagram and Tumblr are great ways to explore photography styles and options, but there are many opportunities lurking within your own extended social network too! If you see a friend tagged in a photo on Facebook for instance, don’t hesitate to reach out to find out more about who took it. Most people are happy to help and provide a good recommendation if they had a positive experience, even if you don’t know them directly.
Ask within the industry. If you’re looking for an Asian wedding photographer, your best bet might be the simplest: ask around. I’ve worked with many caterers, venues, wedding planners and decor companies over the years, and often get asked if I’m available to meet with couples that are specifically interested in Asian wedding photography. I know from first-hand experience that suppliers have no hesitation recommending only the best for your wedding, and will try to match you with the right person for the job and not just the cheapest.
I always have an first consultation with couples to discuss things like budget, what they want from their photography and to show them earlier work. I always show potential clients display albums and at least one full wedding gallery, proving that all my photographs are high calibre, not just the ones selected for my portfolio.
Ultimately, the best way to choose the right wedding photographer is to opt for the one that makes you feel the most comfortable. As the photographer, I’ll be spending most of the day with you, so it’s great to really bond before the big day so you can feel 100% comfortable. By choosing someone who knows what you want and fits well with you personally, you can enjoy a beautiful day that’s captured perfectly in gorgeous wedding photographs.
