The Gallery
As well as rewarding the winning entrants with prizes, G-Technology will further celebrate and promote the successful work by showcasing it at an exclusive week-long gallery exhibition at The Brick Lane Gallery in London’s East End, from November 16-22, 2010. This will include a private opening evening celebration at the gallery that brings together the successful entrants, G-Technology representatives, competition judges and members of the press.
Steve Pereira, VP EMEA Hitachi Global Storage Technologies said, “G-Technology is dedicated to supporting the creative community. Building upon our ongoing sponsorship of the European Independent Film Festival, this Driven Creativity Competition means we can reach out even further to the creative community — to photographers and musicians, as well as filmmakers.
With this competition we want to celebrate and champion the work of content creators who go to great lengths to push the boundaries of their art. We’re looking to reward individuals not only for creating a unique piece of work, but also someone who can demonstrate that they’ve gone the extra mile to produce something inspiring. Perhaps especially for amateur and independent artists, this can often mean working effectively against limitations such as budget and time constraints. We look forward to unearthing some hidden creative gems.”
Entry procedure
Individuals entering the competition can submit their work now through the official G-Technology website under one of three categories – photography, music or film/animation – as a professional or non-professional. Entrants will have to explain what ‘drove’ them to create the piece being submitted and how they would use the prize to develop their next creative project. Full competition rules, terms and conditions can be found at the www.g-technology.eu/competition.
Entry is free and open to residents in UK, France and Germany and only original work created in 2009 or 2010 is eligible. The entry period closes at midnight on September 29, 2010, with the winners and runners-up announced on October 29, 2010.
Judging criteria
The general public will be able to judge the competition submissions online throughout the entry period, with the five shortlisted entries then being judged by the G-Technology jury panel once the public entry closes. Panel members include many of G-Technology’s ambassadors who are leaders in their field and will be contributing exclusive hints and tips to the entrants and wider creative community about what they will and won’t be looking for in each submission, reflecting on what creative techniques and projects inspire them.
Work will be judged for its uniqueness, quality, creativity and the resourcefulness that went into achieving the end result. The competition will recognise established and up-and-coming talent, with all entrants having an equal chance of winning, regardless of size and budget within each category.
Reflecting on what he will be looking for when judging the Driven Creativity Competition, jury member and G-Technology music ambassador Kipper said, “When I choose my favourite music entries, I will be looking for something that is fresh – a track that isn’t just one style but instead successfully combines two different influences to create a unique, new sound. It’s where the producer has dared to put sounds together which others might doubt would work, but in fact, does work. This could be a Hip Hop vibe that features an Arabic orchestra, or a soul singer with a 1930s film underscore. When I produced Sting’s Desert Rose we worked to this remit, with the song featuring the Algerian singer, Cheb Mami, an Arabic percussion and modern synthesisers.”
Media Partners
The Driven Creativity competition is also supported by IDG through its Digital Arts and MacWorld publications.
The Editor of Digital Arts, Neil Bennett said, “As the leading magazine for creative individuals working within the exploding digital media market, it’s great for us to partner with G-Technology who provides cutting-edge external storage solutions for the very same creative community we serve. Its Driven Creativity Competition is a great way for many of our readers to have their inspiring work recognised. We’ll be showcasing successful competition entrants in our magazine and as a member of the jury panel, I’ll be inputting my own creative experience and knowledge to judge what I think are the most outstanding entrants.”
