My dreams of photographing the world started at a pretty young age. I was around the age of ten when I knew it was my purpose. I started asking for my first camera. It took me 6 years, and I was finally able to get one, a $20 point and shoot film camera. I was ecstatic. It was for a photography class, and since then, the darkroom has been my favorite place to be.
Now, at the age of twenty-one, I have purchased my first DSLR!! I am the proud owner of a Canon Rebel XS (1000D). I started photographing seriously in January 2010. Armed only with an iPhone 3GS, I began taking pictures of everything I could see. I wasn’t really inspired by many people, but by the beauty I saw in other photographs, and in my surroundings.
I’ve always been able to see things with a different eye than my peers. But, to be fair, I was completely enthralled at the age of sixteen when I saw “The Afghan Girl” by Steve McCurry for the first time. “The Afghan Girl” is the reason I have decided to travel and photograph for change in the world. I want to stimulate the emotions of people with images, bring awareness and make them want to help. Steve McCurry continues to be one of my favorite photographers. He takes astonishing photographs.
I have also recently been introduced to the world of wedding photography. It’s beautiful, fun, and such a stunning thing to photograph! Jasmine Star has greatly influenced my decision to pursue the field of weddings; she is such an inspiration. I will be shooting my first wedding this May!
Between the two of them, I have some big shoes to fill, and I plan to do just that. Most of my photos to date are taken and edited with an iPhone 3GS. I believe that it will make me stronger as a photographer, being limited with the elements you can control; and it forces your view to be a little bit more creative.
I am currently doing a project called 365 Days of iPhoneography. It’s a way to help me see things from a new perspective, and hopefully improve my skills. It is quite a challenge, but it’s been very helpful so far.
My goal is to be a freelance destination photographer. I want to specialize in portraits of all kinds, and weddings. I can’t wait to travel to distant countries and photograph their people and places. I have every intention of being a photographer to be reckoned with. I am extremely grateful for where I’ve gotten with my photography so far, and am looking forward to continuing my growth and knowledge, as a photographer and as a person.

We have very similar feels for photography. The Afghan girl inspired me and now I find myself shooting weddings as well. Follow that dream as it’s a great life to shoot!
