My name is Claire Farrell, I am seventeen years old and I live in Scotland. I have always had a strong interest in photography but it spawned from my love of art from the very beginning. I joined a local photography club at the age of fourteen and learned a lot about how to work a DSLR before I could afford to buy my own. Since a young age it has always been people who I was interested in drawing and photographing. In my earliest photography experiences I was very drawn to aggressive high speed captures equally as much as I love creative portraiture and fashion.
At the age of sixteen I sat Higher Photography at school as it was a new course that they had brought in, at the end of the year I achieved an A pass at the subject with my graded unit ‘Exploring Portraiture’.
Since then I have had numerous life changing photographic experiences including working in London with Cage Warriors Fighting Championship in March 2013 and having internationally published work. I put my heart and soul into achieving the best I possibly could in photography since leaving school early due to illness in August 2012.
Much of what I know had been self-taught because when I studied the subject of photography I outgrew the coursework in a very short period of time. I was lucky that I have a cousin who does a lot of modelling work in Glasgow. Much of her modelling portfolio inspired me to go on to really have a look at the fashion industry and get hands on experience in the photography sets of many high end fashion shoots by being a photographer’s assistant. Particularly working with international award winning fashion photographer, Laura McKinnon, which was extremely valuable experience.
I hope to within the next few years become a truly established world-wide photographer.
The biggest influences in my photography are Perou, Laura Mckinnon, Erwin Blumenfeld, Esther Lin, Martin McNeil, Nick Knight.
