I don’t really know what gave me the photography bug. I was given a digital camera when I was about 16 or 17, it was a really rubbish camera but I instantly loved the idea of taking photographs. Not long after I was given the camera I found myself in Moscow, and realised that I now had a way of keeping memories from my trip.
Now I know film cameras have been around for years, but I never really had one, so taking photographs was new to me. I kept this rubbish Casio QV something or other for a while, but jumped to a bridge camera as soon as I could. This was when my real taste for photography began. Several friends were in a band, Down to Earth, they allowed me to take photos at their gigs.
This started me in live music photography, and after another camera upgrade to a DSLR, band promotional photography. I have mostly worked with Christian artists, but also the local music scene. Ranging from David Crowder Band to Taio Cruz to The Good Fight.
As well as music photography I enjoy portrait photography, especially ‘lifestyle’ portraits. I also dabble in the odd wedding however I have no desire to be a wedding photographer, but I happily do a favour for friends and family. Landscape and Abstract art photography is by far my favourite, as there is no pressure, and is a simple and enjoyable creative outlet.
From inner city car parks, to Slemish mountain, Northern Ireland has so much to capture. Into this I can incorporate travel photography. Travelling and seeing the world is one of my passions, and I love to use my photography to share the experience with others. Be it a souk in Marrakech, or the top of Sydney Harbour Bridge, I love capturing the world around me.
I am 23, so I am most definitely a child of the digital age. That doesn’t mean I don’t know about film though. Film photography is a keen hobby of mine, as is collecting film cameras. My most used film cameras are, Polaroid SX70 and Canon AE1. However I have a collection of other cameras including a Warwick No 2 box camera, and a Lubitel 166b TLR from Soviet Russia.
So in some ways my photography has gone backwards as it has gone forward. There are many photographers who I admire and enjoy their work. One of my favorites, and a friend who has inspired me is Daley Hake, from LA. His creative portraits and band shots have inspired me to keep on my toes and adapt my photographic style continuously.
In the future I would love to be a professional photographer, but for now I am content being an amateur hobbyist. I would hate to become a full time photographer, and lose the passion and enjoyment, but that may not be the case, and who knows what the future will hold.

Ah, its nice to see a buddying amateur hobbist! Being 24 myself, I can relate to your passion for travel photography and also hope to become a professional photography in future ..i suppose its quite hard being in a market so competitive! but one can only hope and try, true?! Its great how your friends ask you to cover some events, it helps build your experience.
I really love the picture of the blue car, so vintage. and the way the street infront of the car is slightly blurred is awesome… to show motion.
I just checked out your website, fantastic photos. that black and white picture of the dead tree with the snow is AMAZING, very powerful. Can I ask how did you go about making a website? I’m thinking of making one myself to show my portfolio.

Regressing into film is no bad thing! Being unable to crop things out and fix things in post makes it such a rewarding experience! Going pro is no small commitment, if you decide to take the plunge, throw yourself in 110% and you never know what will happen! Good luck!

You look like your a natural, I have taken picture for 35 years and I began exactly as you, a girlfriend show me pictures she had taken and I wanted to do it right away.
You can go mad on the tech stuff and the drive for the ultimate, but without (the sense of an interesting picture) you have dull pictures.

I love the movement in that photo of the blue car. You really captured the moment – I feel like I’m travelling down the road.

Well the photo of the car seems to be a hit… it was taken in Havana, Cuba, It had just pulled out from the footpath, and I was in a Coco Taxi travelling beside it… hence how it is sharp but the background is ‘in motion’
