Ever since I was a little girl, I was fascinated with color, style, and fashion. When I played with Barbies, I had more interest in dressing them than anything else.
As I grew older, my interest in the arts grew stronger. I became intrigued by photography in high school, and although I did not pursue it as a career at first, I knew in my heart it is what I needed to do. I started out going to school for Art Education, but knew that I really wanted to be a photographer.
I soon made the switch from University to Art School. I received my Bachelor’s Degree from the Art Institute of Pittsburgh in March of this year, and have been non-stop photographing ever since. During my time at AI, I developed a love for fashion photography, and had the pleasure of having my passion facilitated by an incredible teaching staff, whom always created a fun and engaging environment. I have been infatuated with capturing the beautiful, the sensual, and the unusual ever since.
As an artist, I work with very specific shifted color palettes; ones that reflect a previous time period, as I am also fascinated with anything that has to do with the past. I primarily work with natural light, but also enjoy creating elaborate lighting schemes to evoke drama and meaning.
I often talk about having “paralleling souls”, as I am constantly torn between the innocent and beautiful and the sexual and dark. I often shift between one persona and the other for months at a time, creating images of a specific nature during those months. One of my favorite series I have done to date is entitled “KINK” which shed light on kinks and fetishes in a beautiful and often humorist way, while my current body of work draws inspiration from the “Occupy Wall Street” demonstrations and will be photographed and released within the next few weeks.
I draw inspiration from the obvious greats: Leibovitz, Avedon, and Goldin, while still continuing to be inspired by contemporary photographers like Hedi Slimane and Steven Klein. I also draw inspiration from past experiences, the nature of human beings, and even nature itself.
In February I will be leaving the country for a year to live in Seoul, South Korea, where I will be teaching English as a second language as well as running a fashion blog about Seoul. My dream is to live in New York and pursue my first love: creating beautiful images that inspire, shock, and tell a story.
