I would like to say that I noticed that I am an observer of all things around me. For as far back as I can remember, I have been “snapping” photographs with any camera I could get my hands on. Usually my parent’s point and shoot camera was all that I had available, but I didn’t care. It helped me begin to capture images of the immediate world around me. In my teenage years, I especially noted that I enjoyed taking candid shots of people. Whether they were staring into open crowd or riding a moped down the street. For human subjects, I really enjoyed capturing the expressions that I could on camera. I find them so genuine that my subjects could not reproduce the moment even if they wanted to. It was pure art to me.
Later, I moved on to add landscapes, pets, wildlife and all the many forms nature takes all around us. Sometimes I remember following a butterfly for an hour as it fluttered ever so often until I could catch it in a unique angle. That being said, I remember looking at national geographic magazines and in awe of the amazing photographs of flowers, rare rainforest frogs, people, places and wildlife. In that magazine there was everything I already enjoyed: candid shots and nature. I would say this was my one powerful influence. I wanted to cover it all just like the magazine!
About two years ago I decided to by my first DSLR camera. I couldn’t afford what I really wanted, but I needed to get my hands on one and quickly. I needed to learn everything about the exposure triangle and know be able to know “the difference between a bus stop and an f-stop.” As much as I would read about it, I definitely needed hands on experience. I applied to get some credit and was able to happily purchase my first digital single reflex camera. It was a beauty: a Nikon D3100. It was what I could afford and it definitely had the features needed to learn the ropes. I started diving into photography more seriously to say the least.
I have since then purchased another DSLR camera with many more bells and whistles. I have been able to hone my skills in photographer a great deal and use creative techniques and expressions through my photographs. They really are becoming a work of art that I enjoy even more. Many of the people who I respect have commented that I definitely have a natural talent for the craft. I am very proud of the photographs I have taken this past year. I regularly also contribute my time to photograph events for charitable organizations with my eye for candid shots. I was told the photos were so moving that it brought the CEO of the organization to tears. What a compliment that was to me.
Finally, my aspiration is to be a photographer that contributes regularly to magazines such as National Geographic and travel the world doing what I love.
