What can I say about my work? It is a modest mixture of what I like to discover through my lens. I have an affinity for portraits, which can convey a lot about a person – a face can be an open book sometimes. Children especially, as they unashamedly open a window into their unspoilt, happy world. Clients tend to prefer studio shots which I do plenty of, but my own passion is for natural compositions and environments. I love to capture those fleeting, unexpected moments that make us smile (or cry) and that pass too quickly.
Nature and wildlife are another of my interests, which I like to explore at a smaller scale – not in sweeping landscapes but in the smallest crevices and details. There is so much beauty and artistic composition in nature, not always visible to the naked eye. A good macro lens can reveal a whole world thriving right under our feet, creatures and miniature landscapes we will never take the time to stop and look at.
And what would photography be if not a bit of fun as well? I love making up or finding interesting shapes, compositions, colours etc to play around with for my more creative projects, which I use for stationary or framed prints.
My photography is a means to pay my bills but for me it is a journey, constantly changing and hopefully improving, a fly on the wall look at life around me. They say an image is a thousand words. I would also say a thousand memories, feelings, lessons and inspirations. An image can be moving, powerful, funny or simply pleasing to the eye. Whatever my photos turn out to be, the driving force behind them is my intention to capture life, in any shape or form it appears in front of me.
