It started completely accidently, with a digital camera that was abandoned by my mother in ’04. This camera couldn’t do much, soon after I purchased a Digital SLR. Since then I haven’t stopped.
At the time my friends were in bands, as were all their friends. I look back on the first gig I shot, just a month after my new purchase and cringe slightly. But the week after I went to 3 gigs.
Shooting bands became such a thrill, getting to know the people and getting images that they loved. I did this for some time, all the while, shooting anything and everything else.
Photography has become a part of my life. My camera has taken me to places and introduced me to people I would not have met otherwise, I use it to document my life. And if there’s a good photograph along the way, it’s a bonus.
I haven’t stuck with any one style, and not sure that I will. From moody black and whites, to colourful nature shots, travel and street stills and capturing the energy of musicians. For me ideas and inspiration come from just shooting.
Everything is part of the huge learning curve. Every client, job, published image, exhibition, idea… every shutter click.

I really like that shot of the bee, especially the way the wings are blurred while everything else is sharp. Do you recall the shutter speed on that one?

Love the boat photograph. The colors are haunting yet quite peaceful at the same time.

I know exactly where you are coming from with the last two sentences of your article. Every time you shoot a photo you get inspired to take more and you learn more with each photo taken.
I am in the same position as you were when you started. Using a point and shoot digital camera. I have found with some simple adjustments to my images such as color or contrast that I can still create some great images. I am always pushing the capabilities of my camera to it’s limit.
Thanks for the article, it makes me want to go out and shoot more today!
