Hello my name is Threeark! I am a fine art photographer. First off I’d like to thank Seven by Five for starting this profile series. One of the best aspects of photography as a medium is the diversity of its participants.
From commercial to fine art, from cityscapes to seascapes there are limitless reasons and motivations for photographers. I’m sure there will be many interesting profiles featured here in the future. Now, about me.
I was born and raised on the beautiful Cape Breton Island and I now live next to the highest tides in the world along the Bay of Fundy. I have a fascination with showing others the world as I see it. I try to present each of my photographs as a glimpse into my life. They are all metaphors for the emotions I am feeling at the time of capture. I actually go out in search of scenes that will portray what I’m currently feeling.
The interesting thing to me about this is that when these photographs are viewed in series they begin to hint at a narrative. To me photography is simply a means of telling a story. We can choose to tell a narrative in a single image, or we can choose to hint and hide what is really happening.
Our choice of composition and processing can dramatically change the outcome. The possibilities really are endless and one can truly say that no two photographers approach their art in exactly the same way.
Lately I have been spending a significant amount of my time photographing the coastlines on the east coast of Canada. We have an almost romantic view of the sea. I have spent hours watching waves crash on rocks. It’s as if two completely different worlds meet.
Marine species live and interact with birds and land animals in a way that is completely unique on earth. Water is almost alien in a way as we have evolved to live on land.
We see it all the time but rarely stop to think about how unique and complex it really is. Seascapes are common in photography but they usually focus on the big picture. It is somewhat rare to see photographers that explicitly explore the boundary between them – coasts.
People living along the coast have such strong emotional connections to the sea that I have to explore it. I don’t wish to document the magic that happens here, there are artists that can do that far better than I can. I simply wish to explore why I love it so much.

Visually your work is very thoughtful. A quality that comes through in the narrative as well. I will disagree with your last paragraph. For you are documenting the magic in unique and unusual ways!
