I am Todd Stone, one third of the Family Stone Photography which is a business my wife Farrah and I started. The last third is our son Tucker. He’s 6 and we get him involved as much as we can and he allows us too. He has taken some pretty good shots. The primary focus of our work for Family Stone Photography is family and child portraits. This is our bread and butter, but we enjoy all forms of photography.
I can’t say there is any one thing that inspires or influences us other than maybe Tucker. He’s the reason we do just about everything. Farrah has a background in photography from her high school days, and I have a background in graphic and web design. It wasn’t until Tucker was born that either of us really got serious about photography. We bought our first digital camera 6 years ago, and I read a little 6-page pamphlet that came with a camera bag on how to take better photographs and I was hooked. My desire to take better pictures inspired Farrah to learn digital photography – as she was an old school film photographer. Over the years we honed our skills with the point and shoot digital cameras we owned, and a little over 3 years ago started Family Stone Photography to offer our services to families who were tired of the “canned” images, just as we were, that you get from the chain studios. Our goal is to make works of art for the families and their portraits.
Our aspirations move from the semi-pro status that we have, and go full time pro and allowing me to quit the day job and make a decent living from photography – be that photographing portrait, landscapes or just whatever catches our eye. We also aspire to have our work published in magazines, on display in art exhibits all the while remaining humble in who we are.
Farrah and I have side projects to our core of family photography. Farrah is working on a building a boudoir and pin up portfolio, and I am working on establishing myself in the music industry with photography bands both posed and on stage. Along with the bands, I enjoy getting out to the track and shooting drag racing and other auto sports.
For 2012, we have established a relationship with a newly formed baseball league and will be providing team and individual shots for them. We hope to grow this side of the business in 2012 to other leagues and sports in the area.
Over the past three years, we have grown as photographers. We have learned by trial and error and through photography courses. Farrah is currently going back to school to get her degree in photography, and I am working on obtaining a degree in business management. We are continually learning, and have come a long way from the Kodak Easy Share that got it all started.
